Google wants to ensure that those who use its digital content over Verizon’s Mobile Broadband Network have a positive user-experience and for good reason.  Google has enough of a stake in some of the biggest growth sectors on the Internet:  digital content including “apps;” mobile Internet devices, such as a possible touch tablet and e-book reader;  social networking, such as Orkut; video, such as Youtube; social gaming, sites like Slide and mobile advertising, think AdMob and with their recent buyout of Bump Technologies, touchscreens.
Verizon and Google have entered a partnership that will give Google special privileges on Verizon’s Mobile Network.  For a company like Google that can afford to partner with Verizon for such wireless broadband preferences, Google’s digital content will be at a competitive advantage over other content and application providers who also use Verizon’s network, unless they pay of course.  How this affects the work at home industry is that if they wish to have their content and applications continue as a pleasant user experience for their audience, they may have to pay for premium access to certain Internet transmissions over Verizon’s mobile broadband network.  This could drive up the costs for some work at home and home-based business operations.  Verizon’s partnership with Google however, does not affect landline-based broadband services such as DSL services.
Was this partnership with Verizon and Google inevitable considering that it is rumored that Verizon is in negotiations with Google to develop a touch tablet, possibly running the Android operating system?  We will have to wait and see about Google’s possible entry into the touch tablet market.  Some have have rumored that this may just be a ploy to get better negotiating leverage with Apple, Inc.  Think AT&T and iPhone’s exclusive agreement and you can imagine a possible Apple, Inc. and Verizon agreement, but don’t hold your breath.
This past week, Google’s Android OS became the top selling smartphone operating system.  Verizon is a large enough player in the United States to compete with AT&T if it too, could get an exclusive agreement with a conglomerate such as Google.  Verizon has many mobiles that run on the Android OS.  So, Google has a lot to be thankful for and now with their alliance with Verizon, the number 2 wireless carrier in the United States may just move into the number one position with Google as its partner.
Google is the leading search provider worldwide and love or hate Google, as a work at home entrepreneur, the reality is, it is very difficult to get anything done profitably, without Google’s assistance with its large range of applications and online tools.  So, adapt or make less money or perish.  Take Google’s income for example, of which a good portion comes from online advertising.  So, ask yourself, is Google seeking more pages in the book of the Internet?  Absolutely, preferential treatment on Verizon’s mobile broadband network would ensure that Google’s AdMob (mobile advertising) would perform favorable and possibly generate even more revenue for Google and Verizon.   Could this be a preemptive move on Google’s part to solidify its mobile advertising platform?
Some people may feel that the Internet as a whole may be threaten by the Verizon-Google Pact making it more of a challenge for companies or individuals to get their new Internet wares to market, such as software and applications.  Could this be Google’s attempt to position itself firmly in that component of the digital ecosystem, we call “apps?”  This would certainly make it more difficult for software and apps developers to compete against Google’s, Android OS and its associated apps, unless of course those new software and apps, enhanced or added value to the Android ecosystem, strengthening Google’s mobility ambitions.  What say you?
Companies that can afford to pay Verizon for preferential treatment on its mobile broadband network would have a competitive advantage over other companies who also use Verizon’s Network.  Consider this for a moment.  Most people outside of the developed countries get on the Internet using their mobile phones and most mobile phone users are prepaid.  There are more cell phones in the world then computers, laptops, tablet computers, iPads and netbooks combined.  The next frontier for companies, television networks, printed media and anyone else who is seeking to advance their online presence and potentially increase their revenue at the same time, is for the hearts and minds of those who access the Internet using their mobile phones.

Bear in mind that most people in the United States spend a minimum of six hours on the Internet a month and guess where their going and doing the majority of the time?  The predominant activity online is interacting on a social networking site, such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.  That’s right the majority of the people the majority of the time are communicating with family, friends and strangers online and the second most dominate activity online in general is gaming and specifically, social gaming.

As more and more people worldwide come online in the coming years, there will be more partnerships like the one between Google and Verizon.  Could Google be setting itself up to make the user experiences for it’s Android ecosystem superior than that of its competitors?  The Internet will be the same, but how quickly you get to certain content will get pricier if more wireless carriers adopt a similar partnership with Google.  Is this Google-Verizon relationship evidence that any business can sell out its mission statement?  Is Google abandoning its core ideas?  Maybe Yes, No.  It really depends on your beliefs and business acumen.  First and foremost, Google is a business, Verizon is a business.  The lifeblood of business are profits.  In business, you either make profits or over the long-term you won’t be in business.
There will be plenty of opportunities for those in the work at home and home-based business sector who are attuned to the changes going on with the Internet and its infrastructure.  There will be multiple revenue streams in pay per click publishing, affiliate programs of the companies that offer apps, mobile internet devices and a host of other new exciting products.  So, the chances to make money online aren’t going away.  It just make cost more to make more online.  As confusing as it may seem at times, the Internet will continue to be a place where fortunes will be made and fortunes will be lost, but for those who have a sense for change and the ability to adapt quickly to the demands of Internet users, the Internet will be a fertile place to make or break the earnest of ideas.  The wireless carriers will exert their influence as they have in the past, but the future belongs to the users and they aren’t going anywhere except maybe online.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced also that it is coming out with a new cell phone microchip and that is sure to cause many cell phone makers to employ AMD’s new microchip in their smartphones and touchscreen devices, especially considering AMD have received notable reviews regarding the graphic capabilities of its chips.  Look to see a need for people to collect and recycle smartphones, cell phones and Internet-capable mobile devices now and for the near future to come.

There will be opportunities even in the smartphone category as Apple (AAPL) has introduced a measure to overcome its latest iPhone’s reception issues by issuing free phone cases.  This may have tainted Apple’s reputation in the eyes of some, but let me assure you that the Apple crowds are a loyal bunch and you’d be hard pressed to separate their Apple products from them, unless of course Apple introduced something better.   That something better creates another opportunity for work at home enthusiast in that, when Apple’s loyal followers upgrade their Apple hardware, there will be an abundance of older Apple products that still have a useful product life to recycle or repurpose.

There has been concern by many that the netbook market is threatened by the introduction of Apple’s iPad and that it will do for mobile Internet consumption, what the iTunes Platform did for music distribution, essentially changing the way we consume music.  Could this be a good thing or a bad thing for the work at home industry?  Personally, I think that the iPad will spawn the acceptance of a new range of portable handheld mobile Internet devices, such as Mobile Internet Tablets, netbooks with optional keyboards and smartphones that behave like computers and give the users a rewarding Internet experience.

Those of us will find that iPad, much like we find our laptops indispensable and an essential part of our work at home strategy.  As we move to the Next Generation Internet with its expanded IP (Internet Protocol) addressing system, we will see a whole line of Internet-capable mobile devices come online.  Some we will cherish and others we will see as a fad and give casual mention of, but by no means will we see a saturation of technology hardware (PC’s, printers, smartphones, cell phones, etc.).  There will be technology hardware that will remain a profitable sector for those interested in recycling and repurposing, if not in this country, certainly in another country that has an increasing vigilant Internet population.

What do broke people and poor people  have in common?  Nothing really.   A visitor to Affiliatester asked a few days ago and even though I felt that I answered the question online, I felt that I needed to explain myself further?  Here is what I have observed over the last half-century about people that are broke and poor people. Broke people are generally without cash flow for a short period of time and often have income coming to them at a later date or in the future.  A broke person being broke is usually temporary, even though, their being broke may occur with such frequency, that they are nonetheless labeled as such, a broke person.  The attitude of a broke person is generally upbeat and optimistic about the future.

Contrast this observed opinion about broke people with that of poor people and you may come to this conclusion and explanation that  poor people on the other hand generally exhibit an attitude of general malaise or a pessimistic outlook about their lives and their future.  Poor people more often than not, don’t have any income coming to them, now or in the future.  If, a person who does find themselves in this category does have income coming to them, it is usually not enough to support them or lift them from their thinking.

A poor person’s condition is often permanent, primarily due to their attitude and unwillingness to adapt to the changing environment around them.  There are those of course who emulate to elevating their condition through sheer persistence, education, the proper tools and application of that education and tools.  So, it is presumptious of me to think that a broke person or a poor person can not improve their lot in life.  It would be like me denying how far I’ve come, to overcome both being poor and being broke and you can too, with the proper attitude, education and tools that will make your success a no-brainer.

Work at home or Work Online, what’s the difference and why does it matter?  For many, traditional work at home jobs have been favored by stay at home moms and unemployed individuals looking to tide themselves over until they find something else more interesting.  But for an increasing minority, that one day, just might challenge the majority, there are those who favor simply finding work online that they can do for a variety of reasons.

The Internet is filled with opportunities & possibilities for those looking to find credible and legitimate work at home opportunities, but the emphasis tends to be on just that, working from home.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to find a means to make money while staying home, but what is there for folks like myself, who have a sense of their own mortality and want to fulfill some of the things on their “bucket list?”

I’ve been looking at ways to earn extra income while at the same time, not being confined to one place or country for that matter, so exploring ways to make a living working from home while actually  not living at home has been my primary objective over the last few years.  For those of you already doing something online and putting together enough income to take care of your care and needs,  I would love to hear about your ventures.

There really needs to be a transparent way for anyone who has the willingness and ability to acquire the education to apply what is out there on the world wide web and make enough to support themselves.  It isn’t too painfully difficult to do, but it does require a period of humility to be willing to accept things that may take you out of your comfort zone and for many of us, we find that particularly difficult to do.

One thing that has humbled me time and time again, is traveling and living abroad for many months and sometimes years at a time.  Every country that I have ever spent any time in, I have always been blessed and fortunate enough to meet my daily needs and my travel concerns from the habits I try to practice online.  More than often, I find myself far away in some country’s hinterlands, where foreigners are rarely seen if ever and especially someone of my ethnicity.

It seems that I am constantly out of my comfort zone, but I’m willing to put the time in to learn new things and take those things and apply it to see to the extent that it gives me more freedom to travel.  Traveling is my passion and although I still work at home, no matter where I lay my head, the work online portion of my life is just that, work online.  I really don’t have any wild expectations of making enough to retire, because to do so would be like the Internet being a “static” environment where nothing changes and we all know how dynamic and forever changing the Internet is.

I don’t have the answers as to what you should do or how you should do it, but what I can share with you is that whatever you do, do you!  You are “your” brand or your business online is your brand and you should do whatever it is within your ability to enhance that brand.  You can always find something that you are passionate about and a way to monetize it, but only after you’ve gotten evidence that there is demand for whatever it is you want to sell or provide a service for.

I started this blog sometime ago with the intention of posting at least several times a week, but as many of you may or may not know, I’ve been on this roller coaster ride with my battle with cancer and have been too under the weather to make sense of it all-must be the medicines, huh?  Nonetheless, share with us if you’d like your methods of fulfilling your ability to have more freedom from your work at home or your work online.

You work from home or contemplating working from home and you’re sitting there wondering what to do today or tomorrow, why not take a moment of your time and see if there is any missing money or unclaimed property that you have or someone has left to you.  A great way to spend some of your idle downtime with something constructive and it just might lead to a rewarding find.  Here’s a little insight on what to expect.

No one knows with utter certainty exactly how much missing money or unclaimed property is owed to citizens of the United States or Canada, but estimates have it around $30 Billion Plus or so, that is just sitting out there among the numerous government agencies, just waiting to be claimed.  If, you’re itching to find out if you or someone that you know has a claim out there, waiting to be received, here’s how to find out whether or not you have missing money or unclaimed property just waiting to be discovered. 

Sure, there are unclaimed property and missing money companies online that will assist you in your search for a fee, but if you don’t mind the thrill of the hunt, you can do it on your own.  All you are going to need is everything you have now and that is a little time and patience and a bit of persistence could go a long ways.

Note that even though you may not believe that you have anything coming to you, there may be a relative or friend who may, so your search just may pay off, for some one you care about.  This $30 Billion Plus of missing money and unclaimed properties can be found in the government databases listing everything from an insurance settlement to a refund you weren’t aware of.  The list of possibilities is almost endless.

Every State and every Canadian Province has a department where missing money and unclaimed property is sent and held until it is claimed.  This could be anything of value, that is stated or not stated or valued by the agency holding the property.  Your job will be to search as many of these government databases as possible to see if you find anything that has gone unclaimed by you, a family member or close friend.

The list of unclaimed properties and unclaimed funds may be jewelry, stocks, safe deposit contents, city, town, province, state or federal refunds or rebates owed to you and you may not even know you’re owed these items.    You see businesses in both the United States and Canada and elsewhere, have a legal obligation to hold refunds, rebates, settlements, mortgage refunds, etc, for a period of time and after which, each item is turned over to the State or Province that has jurisdiction for that unclaimed property or unclaimed fund.

Yes, it’s the responsibility of the State or Province to contact the rightful owner of the missing money or unclaimed property and more than often, the legal owner can not be located for numerous reasons (changed address, marriage and name change, divorce and name change, job relocation, illness, passed away and etc).

This missing money or unclaimed property could represent a host of possibilities, just waiting to be found, such as money left in a closed checking or savings account, a closed money market or CD that you had or someone left to you.  You may have left a job where you worked long enough to become vested in its retirement or profit sharing plan and left unclaimed funds or it could be in the form of a State, Province or Federal tax refund.  How about a yet to be returned, security deposit for a place you once rented, leased or maybe a storage unit you forgot to get the deposit back?

If, you’re like most of us, you’ve got family and even though you may not be too close to some of them, for whatever reason, some people have a change of heart sometime later in life and may have left you as a beneficiary.  A relative or close friend could have left you an inheritance in stocks or an insurance settlement.   Unclaimed money or unclaimed property represents a broad and vast category of reasons you may have money coming to you.

Did you get your last paycheck, where you use to work part time?  What about your favorite Aunt or Uncle passing away, when you were how old?  How about that rebate you sent in for an electronics purchase before you went on vacation?  Did you pay off your house early and didn’t know that you just might have a mortgage insurance refund owed to you or someone you know? As you can see, the possibilities of getting free money back increases dramatically when you or someone you know, consider the number of business and personal transactions that you or they are involved in during the course of several years.

Okay, so what if you have unclaimed property or missing money out there somewhere?  If, it were true, wouldn’t you know about it about now?  Well, possibly, but more often than not, you probably wouldn’t.  You see the government makes an initial attempt to find the legal owner of the missing money or unclaimed property, but if you know your government, they do some things exceptionally well and other things, well, not as well as you may like.

Your claim for missing money or unclaimed property will just sit there with the respective government agency until someone comes along to rightfully claim it.  A position that puts the government in a comfortable position to continue collecting interest until you inquire about it and receive your claim.  If, you don’t know to ask about a possible unclaimed property or unclaimed fund, it will just sit in the government coffers, until the legal owner withdraws it.

Now, if you’re even remotely curious, you’re probably wondering how do you go about checking on whether or not, you have any money or property held by the government, huh?  Here’s how to check for free, that’s right, for free.  No strings attached, other than proving your identity, should you have a legitimate claim.

Keep in mind that when you search for missing money or unclaimed property for you or someone you care about, if you don’t turn up anything, don’t forget to search for both maiden and married names.  You can even tell your friends and tell them too, if you like.   Also, when you do your search, you won’t see such identifiers such as a social security number or date of birth, instead you will see an address.

The address shown may or may not be your address, but the address of the business that sent your missing money or unclaimed property to the agency that handles unclaimed funds in your state or province.  So, don’t give up right away in your search, follow through and you just might be rewarded for your time and efforts.  I don’t mean to sound cruel or uncaring, but don’t forget to include your deceased family members and friends, if you really want to be thorough.

Are you curious about the amount you may be owed, don’t worry, you’ll see that information when you do your searches.  If, you don’t see an amount associated with a claim, it will generally mean that the unclaimed property, is of a non-value nature.  A non-value, unclaimed property, simply means that the business or agency, didn’t list its value when they transferred over to the State or Province administrator.  Examples of an unclaimed property that is listed with no value associated with it are stocks and bonds.

Here’s the databases that you will want to check, in no particular order of preferences, but all are free and all are government databases with the exception of two or three unclaimed property sources, but free nonetheless.  Of, course, you will want to search your particular state or province and/or search the national database that also includes Canada and then spend some time searching the various complimentary government agencies individually, if you feel it applies to your situation or the situation of someone you care about.

The National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators or NAUPA for short, is a must-stop for everyone, which represents the State Governments & Provinces of Canada in their efforts to return missing money and unclaimed properties to their rightful owners.  Unlike many of the databases listed below, it searches every state and province at the same time.  Go here to search their database for free.

If, for any reason you aren’t comfortable searching The Nat’l. Assoc. of Unclaimed Property Administrators site and feel more comfortable sticking with a government site that you have to sort to, to get to your appropriate state, bear in mind, this is a U.S. Government site and does not include Canada or its provinces.  To search for free the U.S. Government Unclaimed Property Site for your state, Go Here.

With the number of bank mergers, bailouts and failures, you might want to take the time and

search for missing money with The FDIC ( Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation).  The FDIC is the insurer of the bulk of deposits at banks throughout the U.S., so they may be worth a look, see.  Here is the link to check for FDIC Unclaimed Funds.

Just like banks have the FDIC to protect their interest, pensions have the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.  The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation has the responsibility of holding onto Defined Benefit Pensions that were transferred to them by former employers.  So, if you or someone you know put in the necessary time at a job or career and didn’t get your pension, you may want to give them a peek.  Here’s the link.
